LIVING with HOPE(LESS)
LIVING with HOPE(LESS) is a series of soft pastel portraits aiming to capture the presence and quiet resilience of abandoned dogs sheltered by Animal Refuge Kansai (ARK).
Each portrait is a tribute: I wanted to portray their stories, their pain, their waiting, and above all, their hope.
In Japan, one of the countries with the highest concentration of pet shops, dogs are often bred, priced, and sold as commodities.
When they’re no longer profitable, many are discarded, abandoned, or euthanized.
This project seeks to expose that reality, where lives can be reduced to inventory, and to offer a space for reflection on the value of life, companionship, and choice.
